| General : Microsoft plans quick fix for IE |

Internet Explorer is used by vast majority of world's computer users. Microsoft is due to issue a patch to fix a security flaw believed to have affected as many as 10,000 websites.
The emergency patch should be available from 1800 GMT on 17 December, Microsoft has said.
The flaw in Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser could allow criminals to take control of people's computers and steal passwords. Internet Explorer is used by the vast majority of computer users and the flaw could affect all versions of it. So far the vulnerability has affected only machines running Internet Explorer 7.
"Microsoft teams worldwide have been working around the clock to develop a security update to help protect our customers," the software firm said in a statement.
"Until the update is available, Microsoft strongly encourages customers to follow the Protect Your Computer Guidance at www.microsoft.com/protect, which includes activating the Automatic Update setting in Windows to ensure that they receive the update as soon as it is available," the statement read.
Potential danger
According to Rick Ferguson, a senior security adviser at security firm Trend Micro, the flaw has so far been used to steal gaming passwords but more sensitive data could be at risk until the security update is installed.

If you've received a message like that through Facebook or MySpace, you may have been exposed to the "Koobface" virus. "Koobface" comes through an e-mail sent by one of your social networking site friends inviting you to scope out a video.
Once the URL is clicked, "Koobface" prompts you to update your Flash player before the video can be displayed. Therein lies the virus, cloaked in a "flash_player.exe" file. According to the Kaspersky Lab, an antivirus organization working closely with Facebook, "the worms transform victim machines into zombie computers to form botnets."

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare™ 1.7 Patch
Yep, that’s right another patch has been officially released for call of duty 4, just weeks after the previous 1.6 patch was released. The cod4 1.7 patch fixes the following issues:
* Fixed an exploit that allowed players to access certain console dvars during multi-player matches.
* Fixed a crash that could occur when a Chinatown Sabotage match would go into over-time.
* Fixed a bug where the MP icons (Bomb, Defend, Capture, etc) were always showing up as English regardless of the install language.
To install this patch you will need the COD4 1.6 patch installed already.

In an effort to eliminate the dreaded "iwd checksum error" during map changes and having to rejoin I have done some research that identifies the problem and the near term solution. A fix is supposed to be included in the 1.6 patch but we don't know when that will be released.
Here is a description of why the problem occurs and is extracted from the IW Nation forum;

This is a two part questions, but I think they're related.
1) Some maps say that the IWD should go in usermaps, and some say Modsetc. How do you know which? Do you just have to rely on the author putting it in the readme and trial and error? Or is their some specific kind of file in the IWD that needs to be one place or the other?
2) I was originally putting ALL the map IWDs in our server's mod folder. We're getting random errors now (filesum mismatch, download issues, etc.), so I've tried moving the IWDs back to their usermaps folder. That works for the most part, but now the game reloads in between each (well, with most) maps. It didn't do that when I was using the Mod folder. Any idea on what the issue is?

As for the PC version, Patch 1.6 will be the one that
introduces the new Kill Cams and other features the console
feature patches received for you guys. The work is done on
that patch and it’s essentially awaiting and going through
internal QA here at Infinity Ward and then Activision. The
good thing about the PC version is it doesn’t require any
certification so as soon as it’s finished internal QA it
heads out the door to the players. I will try to get a full
list of what PC Patch 1.6 includes as I believe there are a
few more PC specific things in there besides just the added
Kill Cams and such. Don’t forget we still have the Custom
Map contest going until March 31st, if you have the PC
version and want to check out all the cool custom maps
everyone is making we have a running list going with all the
current releases and beta maps in the works. Check out the
